Number One Skipped Skill: Listening.
Listening skills for toddlers are Just As Important As Speaking!!
Sooooo many families are concerned about their child saying words that they forget that “listening” is a skill.
The sad thing that sometimes happens is that families think that the baby is “having an attitude” or “refuses to listen” when in reality they MAY NOT be ABLE to!
Don’t ask your baby to follow complicated instructions at 12 months, either, though. Have them follow 1-step. After they are able to follow One step. Then, 2-steps. An Example of Two steps that are sequenced: “grab a new diaper and give it to me.” Only after that do you want to add colors or descriptions as to where they are.
There is also a delay called “auditory processing disorder” where a child can speak just in full thoughts and sentences but not be able to follow directions past 1-step!
